Growing Up and Growing Out

When Christie’s Mom brought her to Children’s Relief Nursery two years ago, she was walking but not talking and didn’t know how to relate to other people. For her first 18 months she had been isolated and under-stimulated at home. Christie needed the Therapeutic Classrooms to help develop her ability to speak, to play and to interact. Now nearly four years old, Christie can say simple statements and has developed into a nurturing playmate, often helping others resolve conflicts. But she’s still not ready for Head Start, the usual next step after a child grows out of Children’s Relief Nursery programs.

But There’s Good News!
Like the children we serve, Children’s Relief Nursery is Growing Up and Growing Out. We have expanded our programs to serve 4-year-olds like Christie. We’ve also expanded our service area to include the neighborhood just East of I-5 between Lombard and Killingsworth. We’re grateful to the State of Oregon and other funding sources for supporting this growth, and we look forward to sharing more about it in the future!

Our Work
Children's Relief Nursery (CRN) works with children in the first, most important years of life. Our mission is to prevent abuse and neglect in children birth through four by partnering with caregivers committed to strengthening their families. Education for parents and relief for families under stress promote healthier solutions. Since 2001, CRN has provided family support services – at no cost – to high risk Multnomah county families. We are building a community where children are safe.
